Science Behind the Policies

One local environmental NGO that MEWR works with is the Waterways Watch Society (WWS), promoting safety of the waterways as well as litter-free waterways and catchment areas. WWS provides feedback to NEA and PUB to assist in maintaining the waterway.

MEWR works closely with local industry associations such as the Waste Management and Recycling Association of Singapore, Singapore Water Association, Environmental Management Association of Singapore.

Established in 1967, the Singapore National Academy of Science acts as an umbrella organization for the premier scientific societies in Singapore. Its principal mission objective is the promotion of science and technology in Singapore.
Research & Development

The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) formed the Environment & Water Industry Development Council (EWI) in 2006 to spearhead the development of the environment and water industry. EWI provides overall direction and coordination of efforts in developing and growing the water and environment industry.

CEPO leverages the strengths of various government agencies for a comprehensive approach to develop the Clean Energy industry in Singapore, which comprises a broad range of areas, including solar power, fuel cells, wind power, energy efficiency and carbon trading.

NSTB has provided seed funding for the Environmental Technology Enterprise at the National University of Singapore and the Water Resources Centre at the Nanyang Technological University as well as full funding for the Environmental Technology Institute. NSTB has also provided monetary support for environmental technology projects at the Productivity and Standards Board.
